The 2012 Crop Circle season is a little late, but it is underway. This Wiltshire pattern arrived in a night of heavy rain, after a month of downpours, but showing no sign of crop abuse (stalks intact); more rain since then has, however, had an impact. Britain’s second crop design for the season appeared in oil seed rape, at Yarnbury Castle, Winterbourne Stoke near Stonehenge, last Saturday–April 28th–on the same day as European-African swallows returned en masse to their British breeding grounds.

It is an interesting coincidence that one of several crop designs imprinted in code–one which the ‘experts’ have yet to decode–is the gigantic swallow crop circle of June 27th, 2009 at Alton Priors. It appeared one year after–and in the same field as–a herald swallow, without coded tail.

We have blogged before on the archetypal swallow and its significance in all northern cultures. It symbolized loyalty, faith, honor, love, hope and safe return. In this post on swallow symbolism, many cultures look to the bird as a representative of the light.

On the other hand, code has been penetrating our consciousness shields in other ways…

Even before the European crop circle season began, on April 15th at East Kennett, the honor again fell to Hidalgo province, Mexico, to lead the crop circle world in astonishment, as overnight a ten-acre wheatfield was used as a cosmic database whiteboard, like a screenshot from ‘The Matrix’. Mexican authorities and croppies worldwide are still trying to untangle the web of “alien” words imprinted in the ripening grain, which delighted computer code freaks, who set about converting it into electronic instructions. Locals in the northern suburb were delighted to be the ones to witness the formations being made, reporting lights descending during the night, and ‘buzzing’ while the crop was being imprinted. When the field was monitored next morning, readings of great fluctuations in heat, and sparking electromagnetic static were measured and recorded. The team’s compasses didn’t work, and the local farmers’ cows wouldn’t give milk the following day.

When Tula-Iturbe Farmers noticed that the code embedded in growing wheat was allowing the crop to continue to grow, as, according to the young reporter, none of the stems in the whole field was broken, they were even more convinced that they were being singled out for a cosmic message. “The writing in the field happened in such a short time and there was no noise except for the light sparks”, admitted one resident.

The event occurred on the night of February 27th, 2012 during the Mexican festival to celebrate the national flag–Dia de la Bandera. Rural Tula-Iturbe is a northern satellite community of Tula de Allende, the city famed for standing within the bounds of ancient Toltec capital, Tollan-Xicocotitlan, see this report on last year’s crop circles that appeared in Tula at equinox–one of Mexico’s most celebrated festivals.

World communications blackout?
The Winterbourne Stoke glyph could not be more different from the Mexican formation; but its small, contained design is somewhat similar to the logo for one of Earth’s largest telecommunications corporations. It is tempting to suggest that the positioning of the crop design so that the middle axis lies across one of the tractor ‘tramlines’, enhances the fracture between left and right curves, positioned offset from one another–and emphasized by the median (machine-made) line. Given the remarkable recovery of our sun from solar minimum of a few years ago, its recent active storms, plasma CMEs–coronal mass ejections–of almost weekly M- or X-class flare [alerts on the NOAA solar-geomagnetic indicator, sidebar right] producing subsequent electronic disturbances and power outages; it is a short mental leap to seeing the Winterbourne Stoke design as shorthand for a breakdown in world communications; and it is too much of coincidence that the ‘logo’ appeared only twenty miles due south of that estimable telecoms corporation’s British headquarters in the ancient Wessex burgh of Malmesbury; but I run ahead of myself…

Solar disturbances aside, there are several other events in the heavenly lineup for 2012, not least the long-awaited transit of Venus on June 6th:

*Alone, May’s annular eclipse (sun’s disk not totally occluded) will stimulate response from thousands of daytime viewers, as the path of the phenomenon starts early afternoon on the Oregon/NoCal border, moving through Nevada, Utah and Arizona, passing in late afternoon over a corner of Colorado, New Mexico, and ending at sunset in Texas. But then, two weeks later, tens of thousands will be geared up to watch the rare transit of Venus‘s solitary disk, as it crosses in front of the sun, from our earth-view–highest visibility in NW Pacific states. This paired event will not happen again this century.

At the beginning of a season, it is easy to lapse into speculation of how the soon-to-come surprises will impact our consciousness: for a group awareness now exists, watching as this long-heralded year opens its doors to never-before seen messages in the corn. If one believes that Consciousness creates Reality; then to no small degree the Crop Circle Community, worldwide, combines its anticipation–swallow-code: hope, expectation–to ‘create’ whatever comes next. It is only our preoccupation with the external measurement of Time which is seen by our logical conscious mind as a hurdle to understanding what our subconscious is already working away merrily on.

To a degree, that scenario completely ignores the fact that the Earth herself, a biological, pulsing, cohesive, supportive (sentient) being, may be capable of sparking electromagnetic vortices–like the subterranean aquifer of Wiltshire-Salisbury Plain–into producing high sonic, low-resolution heat, electrostatic charges which twist and manipulate plant stems into ethereal forms.

However potent is Earth’s own energy, it is on record that previous crop circle groups have combined their meditations/expectations of a design, willing it to appear; and been gratified when something close to their dream manifested.

2012 is already hyped as Apocalypse, EndTimes, Rebirth, New Aquarian Age, but it is also the time when the Maya predicted we would renew ourselves as a (human) race; when their Great Cycle would climax, and it would feel to us like ‘coming home’–their and the Hopi’s ‘Return of the Ancestors‘.

Whichever way you see this exciting new start in Wiltshire: as a simple manufactured work of art by fairies, or aliens without human feet; as electromagnetic current produced by the conductive Wiltshire limestone aquifer; or as a physical manifestation of our own human Group Consciousness; I believe that, at some timeless level, we are retrieving our own memory archives, our own record of our growth together as a world society: delving into the Akashic Records to pull out yet another surprise season of meaningful designs which will keep much of humanity on the edge of its seats for the rest of the performance.

All the Cs: Crop Circles, Comets, eClipses

Throughout history the appearance of comets was seen in the mind of ancient Man as a sign of great change; a bad omen, sometimes heavenly intervention. Usually a bright comet was viewed as a ‘harbinger of doom’, a ‘messenger bringing bad luck’, or ‘death to tyrants and their evil’. But it was also seen – in the light of change – as a portent of unexpected gifts, a messenger from the gods, a shift in observation, in human awareness, a ‘quickening’. As signs in the heavens, comets were both feared and venerated.

The Romans recorded that a fiery comet was blamed for excess bloodshed in battle between Pompey and Julius Caesar in the days of the triumvirate. Shortly afterwards, another marked the Ides of March and Caesar’s assassination. Halley’s Comet was thought to have brought the Black Death in Europe. In the Andes, the Inca record a comet as foreshadowing the arrival of Francisco Pizarro. His armies conquered them and committed acts of brutality literally days after the comet disappeared.

Recent research suggests the Star of Bethlehem was either the cosmological conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in 7BC; or Halley’s comet (or a similar periodic comet)’s appearance in mid-April 5BC.

In North America indigenous Americans saw them as communication from Grandfather Great Spirit; their sudden bright appearance and disappearance marking the descent of special shaman or spirit messengers who joined their number on Earth.

The Chinese made a study of comets for centuries before written records were begun by Western society, but thought of comets as ‘vile stars’ or ‘long-tailed pheasants’ and yet they mapped and recorded their appearance and passage through the heavens.

In ancient cultures astronomy and astrology were inextricably linked – they were both sciences. And what went on in the heavens affected the lives of mere mortals on Earth.

Last week Jupiter and Uranus joined together (in astrological conjunction) in 0ºAries, the cusp degree of the fire sign of action, movement and drive. They are headed for a great opposition, three days after solstice, when a celestial Grand Cross will stand in Earth’s astrological chart.

In western astrology, Jupiter signifies growth and expansion and is considered fortunate, influencing belief, philosophy and social justice. Uranus implies change and excitement. It is eccentric and influences revolution, invention, and technology, such as spacecraft and the internet. Put these two planets together and you can expect fireworks: the change and excitement of Uranus will be amplified by the expansiveness of Jupiter. Growth and the philosophy of endless capacity (Jupiter) are subject to Uranian change with unexpected twists and turns.

Uranus also breeds awareness that comes from a rapid awakening in our (Jovian) belief and faith. If you put the two together, and right now they are neck and neck, the biblical essence called ‘Quickening’ arises in humanity.

There have been pointers.

We’ve been given lots of ‘wayshowers’ by the ‘signs in the fields’.

Last summer, the last few crop circles which graced the late harvest fields of Wiltshire and Oxfordshire included a stunning swallow with what might now be seen as a ‘comet tail’; it appeared in wheat in the South Field at Alton Priors on June 27th. On August 6th, 2009 another wheat crop received the imprint of a comet ‘panel’ of celestial objects breaching the solar wind or sun’s magnetosphere. This crop circle appeared at Windmill Hill, Wiltshire one month before Comet McNaught was discovered heading our way from the Oort Cloud.

And the very last crop formation of last season appeared on August 29th at Waylands Smithy, Oxon in maize (corn): a spiral suggesting both comet and orbit.

So, it is interesting to see comets manifesting in one of the first designs of the 2010 season: at Stony Littleton near Bath in Somerset a wonderful double spiral appeared in a field of beans, in the forecourt of a 5000-year old neolithic chambered tomb, which might suggest two comets orbiting a central cross formation of planetary stations – the June-July Grand Cross perhaps?

Crop circles have in the past sent fairly regular messages which have been interpreted with delight by the astronomical, mathematical and scientific communities: invariably using the ‘Golden Mean’ or Fibonacci perfection, almost always encouraging us to look within or upwards to the heavens. Designs have traditionally been laid out with beautiful geometric precision, but the theme lately has been decidedly astral.

Should we expect the unexpected from Comet McNaught, a new body from the Oort Cloud just starting to appear in the east to the naked eye?

COMETS
The name Comet derives from Greek ‘long-haired’ because of the coma or tail which emanates from the head as the astral body enters the inner solar system on approach to the sun. Known to emanate from two areas in the far reaches of the outer solar system, the Kuiper Belt between Uranus and Neptune and the Oort Cloud beyond Pluto’s orbit, many have been witnessed and recorded for centuries, some making repeat visits. One of the most famous, Halley’s comet, recorded by astronomer-Royal Edmond Halley (1656-1742) in 1682 as having a recurring orbit with previous documented sightings in 1456, 1531 and 1607, last visited Earth in 1986 and will on its 76-year elliptical orbit, approach the sun again in 2062.

In the meantime we’ve had Shoemaker-Levy in 1994 which circled Earth before splintering and crashing into the atmosphere of Jupiter on its return trip; Hyakutake in 1996 and Hale-Bopp in 1997, a spectacular comet with a double tail tracing a similar path through Perseus; along with comet 17P/Holmes and a previous McNaught in 2007. The nucleus of a comet is like a ball of rock mixed with dirty ‘ice’: frozen water, methane, ammonia. As the object gets close to the sun, frozen gases and dust start to heat and evaporate, creating a long tail of vaporized molecules, dust and debris emanating from the coma – the ‘hair’ – to flow behind it. Out beyond the solar system perimeter, the object is only a small unremarkable frozen nucleus, visible by telescope as reflected sunlight: a speck of ice and dust. But as it is pulled in on its saucer-shaped orbit towards the sun, it transforms.

Dust elements are blown by the solar wind to form the tail, and water and gas molecules heated by their approach to the great solar furnace – hydrogen, oxygen, carbon monoxide and dioxide – have one of their electrons torn off (ionized) by the action of sunlight and they too are pushed into the ion tail. The ‘coma’ can extend to many times the size of the original nucleus, creating spectacular night-sky objects visible first through binoculars and telescopes and then, as the comet gets close to Earth orbit, to the naked eye. Because the comet’s head is on orbit headed for the sun, the tail always points away from the sun, outward from the nucleus, driven by the solar wind.

Special effects can result when added molecules are present. In the case of C/2009 R1, its luminous green coma is a result of ultraviolet solar rays mingling with cyanogen gas.

Comet R1 McNaught was discovered on 09/09/09, but only started becoming visible in the northern hemisphere just before dawn in late May-early June 2010 on the eastern horizon. It should be a naked-eye object best seen this weekend and early next week when the new moon is at its thinnest crescent and the comet at close range to Earth. It lies a one-and-a-half ‘Cassiopeia’ lengths below that famous ‘W’ shape in the northern sky.

Thereafter it will increase in brightness as it moves from the constellation Andromeda through Perseus and then into Auriga between mid-June and early July when it passes Earth on towards its closest brush with the sun, perihelion, on July 2nd.

While C/2009 R1 then becomes difficult to see in the north, it will be a bright addition to the dawn sky in the southern hemisphere in the early nights of July on the runup to July 11th, when something miraculous will occur.

To backtrack a little, New Age metaphysician, charismatic speaker and student of the Maya and indigenous peoples, Drunvalo Melchizedek took a journey in 2003 starting in the north and moving to the south Pacific with a group of people who represented every nation of the planet Earth.

He says:

We have to find the secret of how this leap in consciousness we are being asked to make is acquired: human consciousness combines conscious awareness of the Ancient world – the world of Nature – with the conscious awareness of the modern world. The two meshed together create a new shift upward in all consciousness. If we can at least try to reach that respect and atunement with Nature, with the divine essence of the planet, we can make it into this new level of consciousness.

Drunvalo and his group first held a ceremony of love and appreciation in 2003 at the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, said to be the north pole of the etheric web – or electromagnetic field around the Earth – offering gifts of peace and meditating on Man’s return to natural ways of living on Earth. Then, through Geomancy, (Arabic, ilm al-raml), various degrees of difficulty and many months, they finally succeeded in holding a similar ceremony on a small island in the South Pacific in 2008 at the closest point to the planet’s electromagnetic ‘south pole’, diametrically opposite the Great Pyramid and on the other side of the world within the Easter Island group. When the ceremony was over, Drunvalo says there came a series of ‘signs’ from the heavens and they knew as a group that their work of ‘birthing a new consciousness’ for the planet Earth was completed, although he says he knew it would take some considerable time for the rest of humanity to follow and to see similar ‘signs’ of awakening, quickening.

It just so happens that when Comet C/2009 R1 McNaught moves as a night sky object in early July into the southern hemisphere, something else will occur which may rock a few (astronomical as well as spiritual) socks. On July 11th, Comet McNaught will become difficult to see in both northern and southern hemispheres: in the north it is too close to the horizon – and getting very close to the sun – for practical observation as dawn breaks, another distraction; in the south it occurs during daylight hours.

On July 11th, however, the Cosmos has devised a little trick to make it visible. On that day the southern hemisphere – in particular the island of Mangaia near Easter Island (close to where Drunvalo Melchizedek and his group of meditators and earth-healers held ceremony in 2008) will experience a total solar eclipse and the sky will be dark for four minutes. During the occultation Comet McNaught will be the brightest object in the (daytime) sky! What a delightful coincidence: Easter Island residents not only got to help participate in healing the planet’s electromagnetosphere but they now get to see the heavenly response to their work.

Drunvalo, I suspect, along with the New Age community and astronomy buffs worldwide, will be pleased.

Cracking 2010 Crop Circle Triangle Code

The 2010 season is building. Last weekend – just before the 2010 May full Moon, as the Sun moved from the earth sign of Taurus into the dualistic but communicative air sign of Gemini – a fourth crop circle manifested in a field of oil seed rape near the windmill at Wilton, Wiltshire. It lies approximately twenty-five miles northeast of the Stonehenge line which attracted three early season glyphs. These three previous imprints in canola formed a triangle on the Stonehenge energy vortex on May 5th, 9th and 16th. towards last weekend’s latest showing. The Wilton Windmill ‘sails’ in the crop circle form twelve interlocking isoceles triangles circling a central point, each triangle containing something that looks like ASCII – binary – computer code. Within the sails there are two sets of repeating code sections but the other ten are different. It measures 300 feet across. Another triangle meantime manifested on May 14th in an oil seed rape field in Zierenberg, Hessen, Germany.

Triangle symbolism denotes many ideas simultaneously:

In astrology an upright triangle represents the most positive of the aspects, a trine, or the angle of 120 degrees between planets, but it is also used to represent the astrological element of Fire, and as astrological signs are arranged in four triplicities — fire, air, earth, water — it represents the Fire signs. [Conversely, in astrological symbology, a triangle with a lower line drawn through horizontally, denotes the Air signs].

While the triangle does not appear much in prehistoric symbolism (when the circle, feminine womb symbol, predominated), it does feature in biblical history and in Judaeo-Christian symbolic word-construction where it became associated with the Divine number THREE. It is an older symbol than the medieval swastika or pentagram (based themselves on numbers four and five. Xenocrate, who died in 324 BC, stated that the (three-sided) equilateral triangle was a symbol for God. In Christian symbolism it stands for the Holy Trinity.

In modern thought, it is a symbol of dualism: a ‘caution’ triangle on a road sign may simultaneously denote (for the motorist) an upcoming pedestrian crossing — therefore a warning; while for the approaching pedestrian the triangle signifies it is ‘safe’ to cross. In road etiquette, a single red triangle (either in wooden painted joinery form or as a red-colored sign) placed on a road verge or a blind corner will slow the auto driver down because he doesn’t know what is ahead.

It has an amazing repertoire of significance in more recent history: from botany to air traffic control.

In cartography a clear triangle stands for natural gas while a darkened triangle means oil well. Mapmakers at this very moment have a lot of dark triangles scattered across maps of the Gulf of Mexico.

In plant and horticultural terms an upright (apex at top) triangle denotes an evergreen perennial. In meteorology it means hail is forecast. Physicists use the triangle symbol to mean ‘lowering freezing point’ or ‘lowering temperature’, while chemists (and alchemists) use it for the opposite: a triangle suggests that temperature is rising. As a convention among flyers, in ground-to-air emergency code it implies ‘safe to land here‘.

To help understand the phenomenon, we make a gentle nod of appreciation to turn-of-the-century ‘traveling people’. Europeans call them Gypsies, using a perfectly politically-correct description of an eastern European people who made their home on the Road.

Gypsy symbology was for hundreds of years a carefully-guarded secret. Where a host had been hospitable, offered food or sustenance and kindly directions, a Gypsy symbol would be affixed to a gatepost or tree in the lane outside the property as a signal to a fellow traveler that here lived a friend. It worked both ways. In hard times a Gypsy would repay kindness with kindness and a generous host would receive unexpected gifts from the next visitor: a 19th/20th century version of ‘pay-it-forward’. The Wilton 12-segmented circle might be seen as a dandelion ‘clock’, in the world of Gypsy symbolism a sign of ascendance and transformation (yellow petals going inward and reemerging as powder-puff seeds). CONDUIT CLOSING
Messages are not new in the Kornkreise. One of the first to be deciphered was the Chilbolton radio telescope formation which appeared in the summer of 2001. Its message was clearly an answer to the radio telescope transmission sent in 1974 by Dr. Carl Sagan and his team of astronomers based at Cornell, New York, Cambridge, Mass, but transmitted from Puerto Rico’s telescope at Arecibo. The ‘reply’ caused a stir. Carl Sagan was sadly no longer around to appreciate it. His team were interested in the similarities expressed in the crop message and their original transmission. It was the differences, however, which fascinated: it was a clear attempt to express a communication from an entity which does not have human proportions. Messages then followed thick and fast. In the next year, only eight miles south of Chilbolton at Crabwood Farm near Winchester, the ‘Alien face’ appeared accompanied by its ASCII (binary) message: interpreters used a similar method to the Chilbolton design: seeing the crop folds and standing tufts as ‘pixels’. Substitute a 1 for standing crop, 0 for flattened sections; dividers between words were smaller tufts. An anonymous crop circle computer wiz volunteered a binary translation shortly after its appearance. His work was doublechecked by Paul Vigay – then still alive and at the time working on cymatics – sonic and musical form expressed as a visual. He agreed with the decoding: The message said:

Beware the bearers of FALSE gifts and their BROKEN PROMISES. Much PAIN but still time. (damaged word). There is GOOD out there. We OPpose DECEPTION. conduit closing (bell sound)

There are still a lot of messages out there we haven’t yet succeeded in interpreting. The great tail of the swallow of Alton Barnes formed in June 2009 comes to mind. As does the magnificent third phase of code added to its neighboring triple-formed ‘astrolabe’ below Milk Hill Alton Barnes over solstice week 2009 — astrolabe ‘pendulum’ forming first, then orbiting planets, then 1000-foot trailing code.

Do you think we are being treated to signage from the stars for mere entertainment? Or is this season working on our DNA in cumulative fashion?

In the absence of Carl Sagan, Paul Vigay and Gerald Hawkins, we are floundering in ASCII code but in muddied waters, unable to decipher either musical notation, sacred geometry or intervals in a sonic scale in crop circle symbology (on which Vigay and Hawkins corresponded before their deaths). However, Joseph Mason who works with dream analogy, linking sacred geometry, symbolism and intuitive messages, may be able to help. He says:

In a dream I was told “The experiment that would transform your world would operate upon the basic idea that you create your own reality according to the nature of your beliefs, and that all existence is blessed, and that evil does not exist in it. If these ideas were followed individually and collectively, then the evidence of your physical senses would find no contradiction. They would perceive the world and existence as good.”

Within the last week, molecular biologist Dr Craig Venter and his team of US scientists in Maryland and California developed synthetic ‘genetic software’ (DNA) for a bacterium and transplanted it into a host cell. The DNA responded exactly as it had been ‘programmed’ to do.

Russian molecular biologists have found it possible to communicate with DNA through voice-modulated laser light. With voice-modulated laser light it is possible to transpose genetic information from one genome to another without the need for transplanting and splicing chemical genes. The Russian researchers spoke to DNA finding their voice modulation and tone achieved the effect of a frequency which resonated with the DNA. They discovered that at a fundamental level the DNA follows the modulated voice tones of mankind, or, put spiritually: DNA is capable of responding to the WORD.

Joy will return and in a way which will fill the hearts of all mankind. You will come through a tremendous struggle into the age of conscious awareness of the oneness of the ALL.

This groundbreaking thought is reminiscent of a protolanguage which Robert Boerman used to interpret the Milk Hill inscription in 1991. Using voice modulated laser light it is possible to change DNA, and as it is known that DNA of the plant (rape, barley, wheat) is modified when crop circles are created, it appears that the energy that forms crop circles is in the nature of this voice-modulated laser light (crop circle formation is sometimes corroborated by eyewitness accounts of anomalous luminous phenomena).

Judy Beebe says:

“There is a language which is used to communicate intergalactically and from spirit to spirit. This is the Language of Light, a language of symbols. Symbols are played through our bodies and the understanding then delivers a dialogue. This is what the crop circles have been trying to convey to an awakening world. The reason these symbols must be played through our bodies is that we have within us the truth of the macrocosm.”

Native American shaman Nippawanock of the Arapahoe says:

‘Prophecy is underway — as earth changes unfold, the Sacred Symbols will be newly understood.’

In the last week the Sun, long past its forecast trough of an 11-year minimum sunspot cycle, started to stir again. As we know, when sunspots start happening once more, the electromagnetic field reenergizes and we feel the effects on Earth. This latest surge comes from a huge coronal hole in the sun’s earth-facing disk.

The image is a composite of three extreme ultraviolet wavelengths: 211 Å (false-color red) 193 Å (green) and 171 Å (blue), each tracing a different gas temperature ranging from 1 to more than 2 million degrees K. Highlights of today’s sun include an enormous magnetic filament, a coronal hole.

In our past experience, a coronal mass ejection (CME) precipitates a flurry of electromagnetic activity on earth, including increased crop circle appearances.

The code in the Wilton windmill ‘sails’ looks a little like binary code but it reminds me more of either a computer disk image or, even older, the workings of a Swiss music box. I remember listening to a Victorian pianola in a resort hotel as a child. Its workings fascinated me. By inserting a large metal disk precision cut with a specific series of holes, slurs, slits and bumps, it operated like the miniature musical box but on ‘carnie’ carnival scale. The pianola took up a whole corner of the room. Like a jukebox it blared out its music hall rhythm the minute the ‘reading’ needle hit the disk. I seem to remember the music played a lot longer than current pop three-minute renditions… but memory sometimes tricks. The Wilton windmill formation looks a lot like a pianola disk, 300 feet across!

So, is cymatics once more being suggested to us? the interchangeability of sound played as a visual? I shall be the first to congratulate the decipherer of the Wilton windmill ‘disk’. It is begging to tell us its message.

One pleasant thought to keep us thinking positively through what lies ahead: by the time the main bulk of crop circles appears in June and July, we shall have amassed a superb body of new designs, coded messages and even be in a position to interpret some of them. We may by then have grasped a lot more of the symbolism being presented to us and will be better prepared for creative and constructive action. We are, after all, creating our own reality.

Another thought: when we are happy, we sing, we hum, we make a happy sound. Perhaps the formation wants us to do that. What miracles might we create if we collectively sang in harmony?

When it is within our imagination to conceive the impossible, everything becomes possible.

Crop Circles, Nazca Lines: A Perspective

Thanksgiving is a time to honour our blessings, to look to the future, and remember our past, but not to dwell on it. It is a gift to be able to live in the sacred moment of Now, holding a perspective of present and past; even future. For that it is sometimes useful to look to the stars.

Nobody wants to be bogged down by deadlines, traffic jams, daily pressures which business imposes on our lives, but they are a reality. The gift is not to allow those pressures to impinge on our conscious-ness ALL of the time: to set aside some moment, daily, for what’s going on INSIDE, not outside in our lives. The trick to maintaining a healthy mind within a body that’s built to withstand some stresses is simple: it’s called switching off.

Everyone needs to switch off, to become unglued, to take a Holiday. That’s why Thanksgiving is such a huge celebration in the American continent: the international home of Big Bizness. This time of gratitude covers every race, creed, religious sect and subgroup: everybody celebrates. A timeout that takes us away from the increasing world pressure to ‘take care of business’. It gives us an overview of life; if only for one weekend in the year.

With a feeling of joy for what we are grateful for in our lives comes a per-spective on how our lives have turned out; from where we started. We look at the last year and give thanks: for our home, our family and our friends. Sometimes we give thanks for a lot of years: and see how our past has become our present.

They say it’s not good to dwell in the past. However there are some lessons from the past that we, with the miracle of technology, may use. They teach us to hold an overview.

Yes. Crop circles, among others, point the way.

Over the last decade we’ve been treated to a deluge of them: now more than a mere curiosity: they are perhaps showing us how to ‘be’.

Using techniques as diverse as pictograms, mathematics, animal and nature symbolism and digital ‘language’, these crop glyphs have become increasingly sophisticated and, like our own society and consciousness, their influence is expanding.

Last summer alone brought eye-witness reports from unbiased observers who believe personally and irrevocably in their ‘power’ to convert. Visitors to crop circles have experienced a ‘transformation’, feeling of ‘oneness’, a change in conscious-ness, a sensation of love for their fellow beings. These human emotions are backed up by changes and fluctuations in on-the-ground readings monitored by digital and electronic equipment used to measure the electromagnetic flow.

Even for those of us not conversant in the language of mathematics, the evidence has already brought the scientific community on board. Carl Sagan, astrophysicist and author of ‘Cosmos’, said before he died in 1996 at the age of 62: ‘Mathematics is the Rosetta Stone of the Universe’. This interpretive Rosetta Stone is evident in enough crop circles to satisfy the most skeptic mathematician.

Gerald Hawkins, the great Cambridge Observatory scholar, astronomer and author of ‘Stonehenge Decoded’ and ‘Beyond Stonehenge’, wrote an amazing treatise on Euclidean Geometry in Crop Circles and their relationship to Diatonic Ratios – also shown in crop circle imagery. His primary interest before he died in 2003 was work on his archaeo-astronomical computer devised at Cambridge, Mass (in the days before computers were commonplace) to calculate the placements of stones within Stonehenge and other British stone circles and their alignment to rising and setting sun, moon and constellations. The fact that his interest was transferred in later life to discussing similarities in sacred geometry with crop circle designs is a huge statement of support for their precision and authenticity.

It is intriguing to note that a crop circle of perfect sacred geometric pyramidal proportion appeared in July 2009 in a field next to a defunct observatory (now converted to a windmill) built in 1632 by astronomer Sir Edward Peyto to house his simple telescope. Like the crop circle which appeared in a field next to the Chilbolton radio telescope in 2002, the message would appear to be saying, once again, look to the stars.

Take another form of Kornkreis symbolism: images depicting birds, insects: the dragonfly, the human butterfly, the honeybee and bumblebee; swallows: all symbolic of flying, reaching beyond ourselves into the stratosphere of consciousness, beyond our mortal coil: suggesting our need to connect with our higher selves, superconscious, looking perhaps to encourage Mankind to connect as one, as a collective conscioiusness; holy, whole.

In this respect the crop circle phenomenon is reminiscent of a cultural device used by ancient civilizations to instruct their people in a religious fervor and belief in their gods, which would gather them together and guide them through difficult times: in creating images of superbeings directing their lives, kings and emperors and rulers of all ancient empires were able to use mass belief to maintain harmony and rhythm in daily lives. The Egyptians’ pantheon is superb: gods and goddesses carved in stelae, tombs and great city walls were depicted as immortal effigies of the pharaohs themselves, the god-king of their people whose power was omnipotent. Assyrians did it. Greeks and Romans followed suit, with temples, statues, sculptural images and mural art of astonishing beauty.

Perhaps the Peruvian rulers and god-kings of the Andes ought to be placed in this category; for they, too, had a way of subjugating their people and using their labour to create beautiful, if taltalisingly obscure symbols: the Nazca Lines.

Stretching for hundreds of miles through the Altiplano Peruvian high desert, the lines form geoglyphs cleared in the land surface. Made by Nazca laborers, they follow riverbeds that flow from the Andes. This high desert terrain stretches for over 1400 miles along the Pacific coast and the Pampa Colorada, or Red Plain of deep red sandstone where Nazca art was created, runs 15 miles inland and for 37 miles alongside the Andes. Nazca workers cleared the surface of stones, revealing lines of lighter clay underneath. Because of its dry climate (humidity quotient almost zero), these imprints have remained in the landscape for the last millennium and a half.

Like their modern counterpart the crop circles, appearing regularly throughout recent summers in English fields, the Nazca lines show not only geometric and conceptual shapes, but also glyphs of animals and plants in stylized form. Like crop circles, the Nazca lines are most spectacular when viewed from the air.

Because of our programming as a society, taught for millennia to believe what we see in our three-dimensional world, it has taken us all of the last hundred years even to agree with Einstein that the possibility of a fourth dimension is conceivable. Only now are we beginning to realize that the suggestion, taught for centuries by esoteric spiritual disciplines, that we are part of an even-greater Whole of seven, nay, twelve, perhaps infinite dimensional realities, may have validity: that we may indeed be sending ourselves messages to trigger our soul memory that it is time to wake up and become the spiritual beings we were intended to be.

We Are The Ones We Have Been Waiting For. It has a ring to it.

It is tempting to conclude, therefore, that our own group consciousness, that ever-expanding nebulous concept which our linear-embedded society has until now refused to conceive as a genuine possibility, is sending us messages embedded in our beautiful planet earth. And each summer, not only are they getting more beautiful, more complex and more meaningful, but they are triggering in us a desire, like the mythical Phoenix, to rise from the ashes of our past and become, as they suggest, the star-children of our dreams: the ones we have been waiting for.
